Rizal Park is an urban and national park located at the northern end of Roxas Boulevard in the heart of Manila, Philippines. It has been a venue for many historical events that took place from the Spanish colonization up to the present time.

Luneta, as it is more commonly known to Filipinos, was once a social and business venue for trade and events back in the 18^th century. The area was then known as Bagumbayan (New Town). In the latter part of the 19^th century, it was notoriously known place where public execution of criminal and political enemies of the Spanish government took place. The most popular of them was the execution by garrote of the three Filipino priests, Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora (GOMBURZA). This left a mark that later led to the Cavite Munity.

But the most historic event took place in the Luneta was the execution of the country’s national hero, Jose Rizal on December 30, 1896. This injustice sparked the fire of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish colonizers and made Rizal a symbol of the revolution. At present, the Rizal Monument stand in the park as a reminder the martyr’s actions.

Other attractions in the Rizal Park are:

Chinese Garden - a Chinese-style garden with a lagoon, pagodas, and gazebos

Japanese Garden - built to promote friendship between Japan and the Philippines

Quirino Grandstand -  named after the former president Elpidio Quirino, it is a venue for important events such as the newly-elected president's inaugural address. Other cultural and religious celebrations also take place here.

Lights and Sounds of Rizal - a 3D audio visual presentation of the Rizal’s execution

Kilometer Zero - this serves as the origin point from which road distances around Metro Manila are measured.

National Library of the Philippines - the country's public that offers a collection of Filipiniana books and memorabilia and is the source of the information for students and researchers

Lapu-lapu Monument - also known as the Statue of the Sentinel of Freedom, it was a gift of the Korean government honoring the Filipino's help during the Korean War in the 1950s.
